Different types of citrus fruits have similar nutrients like fibre, vitamin C, calcium, potassium, foliate and vitamin A but in different amounts. Citrus fruits are good not only to eat but lemon juice is an old beauty treatment helping to heal blemishes and whiten the skin. It's an excellent moisturiser, exfoliant, and toner. The orange peel has the same benefits.

A single orange contains more than 60 flavanoids. The vitamin C content found in oranges boosts the immune system function and provides antioxidant. Oranges contain limonoids which are proven to fight with any kind of cancer, because limonoids in oranges act as a natural antioxidant by helping prevent free radicals from damaging the cells and causing cancer. Oranges also contain many different minerals, vitamins and nutrients which can be beneficial for the daily diet of ours.

To make a good mask for oily skin, combine orange juice and pulp with an egg yolk. Apply to damp skin and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. If you can produce home-made soap, the usage of the dried peel of orange is very good for scrubbing.

Lemons are an excellent source of citric acid and contain many flavonoids, antioxidants and – just like oranges – cancer-preventing compounds. The flavonoids found in lemons stop cancer cell damages and have antibiotic properties. Nutrients, vitamins and minerals are found in lemons are proven to be good for overall health and well-being. The vitamin C content of lemons contains many important natural antioxidants. Lemons can help reduce swelling, inflammation and oedema. The fruit is ideal for people suffering from urinary tract infections and high acid content in the urine and helps flush harmful bacteria out of the body. To give an example of how this works, one of these nutrients (lutein) appears to be able to protect the retina—the part of the eye that picks up the visual image from the environment—from damage caused by blue light. Further, it contains zea-xanthin, a carotenoid selectively absorbed into the retinal where it is thought to provide anti-oxidant and protective light-filtering functions.

Apricots are a good source of dietary fibre. This overall fibre content should be helpful for most people in supporting digestive health. They are an also good source of minerals such as potassium, iron, zinc, calcium and manganese. Potassium is a heart-healthy mineral; an important component of cell and body fluids that help regulate heart rate and blood pressure.

The fruit is rich in minerals, calcium, magnesium, potassium, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, C and flavonoid compounds.

Grapes are high in antioxidants important for eye health such as lutein and zeaxanthin, and red grapes contain the phytochemical resveratrol in their skins, the antioxidant synonymous with wine known to lend protection from several chronic diseases and conditions. Grapes also boost the power of the flavonoids myricetin and quercetin which help the body to counter-act harmful free radical formation. Grapes contain powerful antioxidants known as polyphenols, which may slow or prevent many types of cancer, including esophageal, lung, mouth, pharynx, endometrial, pancreatic and colon. The resveratrol found in red wine famous for heart health is a type of polyphenol found in the skins of red grapes. Eating foods that are high in water content like grapes, watermelon and cantaloupe can help to keep you hydrated and your bowel movements regular. It is particularly helpful to older adults, whose bones tend to become brittle with age. Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme, is the key to pineapple's value. Proteolytic means "breaks down protein", which is why pineapple is known to be a digestive aid. It helps the body digest proteins more efficiently. Bromelain is also considered an effective anti-inflammatory. Regular ingestion of at least one half cup of fresh pineapple daily is purported to relieve painful joints common to osteoarthritis. It produces mild pain relief. In Germany, bromelain is approved as a post-injury medication because it is thought to reduce inflammation and swelling. Fresh pineapple is not only high in vitamin C, but because of the bromelain, it has the ability to reduce mucus in the throat. If you have a cold with a productive cough, add pineapple to your diet. It is commonly used in Europe as a post-operative measure to cut mucus after certain sinus and throat operations. Those individuals who eat fresh pineapple daily report fewer sinus problems related to allergies. In and of itself, pineapple has a very low risk for allergies. Pineapple is also known to discourage blood clot development. This makes it a valuable dietary addition for frequent fliers and others who may be at risk for blood clots. An old folk remedy for morning sickness is fresh pineapple juice. Fresh juice and some nuts first thing in the morning often makes a difference. It's also good for a healthier mouth. The fresh juice discourages plaque growth.

It is an excellent source of vitamin C and a very good source of vitamin A, particularly through its concentration of beta-carotene. Watermelon is also a source of the potent carotene antioxidant which is called lycopene which gives fruits the attractive red colour. These antioxidants travel throughout the body neutralizing free radicals. Free radicals are substances in the body that can cause much damage to us. They are able to oxidize cholesterol, making it stick to blood vessel walls and thicken them which can lead to heart attack or stroke. It is a fact that watermelon is the only fruit that contains higher concentrations of lycopene than any other fresh fruit or vegetable. Watermelon is a fruit that is rich in electrolytes sodium and potassium that we lose through our perspiration. Watermelon is rich in the B vitamins necessary for energy production. Food experts recommend watermelon as a very good source of vitamin B6 and a good source of vitamin B1 and magnesium. Because of its higher water content approximately 90 percent and calorie value it is ranked more valuable than other fruits. Watermelon has a special cooling effect and is exceptionally high in citrulline, an amino acid that our bodies use to make another amino acid, arginine, which is used in the urea cycle to remove ammonia from the body. The antioxidants help reducing the severity of asthma. It also reduces the risk of colon cancer, asthma, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis. Watermelon is a good source of thiamin, potassium and magnesium which protect our body from so many diseases. Watermelon is fat free but helps energy production. Watermelon and watermelon juice have been shown to reduce muscle soreness and improve recovery time following exercise in athletes. Researchers believe this is likely do to the amino acid L-citrulline contained in watermelon.

When the heat of summer tires us with thirst, eating watermelon is a safe alternative to taking energy drinks. Since it contains high water quantity it can hydrates us whereas other drinks are caffeine filled energy drinks which can easily dehydrate us.

Watermelon is also great for your skin because it contains vitamin A, a nutrient required for sebum production that keeps hair moisturised. Vitamin A is also necessary for the growth of all body tissues, including skin and hair.

For sun damaged skin soak cotton pads with fresh watermelon juice and apply to any sunburned areas. Let the juice sit on your skin for 15 minutes before rinsing off with cool water.
